The Permit Process
Fence permits are required prior to construction. The following items are needed with the application:
Inspections
Once the fence is installed, an inspection is required to verify proper installation. Please notify the Building Department and allow 24 hour notice for inspection when installation is complete.

The Village Code 175-65
- No fence is permitted in the front yard without Zoning Board approval.
- Fences over 4’ in height must be a minimum of 20’ from the front setback limit of the property.
- 6’ is the maximum height a fence can be without a variance.
- The “good” side of the fence must face towards your neighbor.
- Barbed wire, razor wire, and electric fences are not allowed in the residential zone (invisible dog fence excluded).
- Fences on elevated decks around swimming pools shall be 4’ max.
- All fences shall be properly maintained.
- Fences can be placed up to the property line.
The Permit Process

- A survey of your property
- A site plan
- Contractor’s name and insurance information
- Cost of permit
