The 5th Annual Balsa Plane Contest

Takes place this year at

The Village Days Festival

Saturday, August 12, 2006

1:00 pm

Tom McCoy, who is the Owner of Performance Hobbies and has been a great supporter of Village Events for years, including White Christmas in the Village, and the Trick or Treat Trail, says this contest began quite by accident.  Apparently, one Sunday during Village Days when the festival crowds were thinning, Tom went out in front of his shop to see how long he could keep one of the balsa airplanes in the air.  Children and adults passing by were curious to see how the planes worked, and Tom gave all who were interested a plane to try out.  A crowd soon gathered to see who could keep their plane in the air the longest, and a new Village Days Tradition “took flight”!

The contest is FREE and is open to girls and boys who are between the ages of 5 and 12, and prizes are awarded to the participant that can keep their plane in the air the longest.  This year, First Prize is a Radio Controlled Airplane, Second Prize is a Model Rocket Kit, and Third Prize is a Free Flight Airplane.  So join the fun on Saturday the 12th at Village Days in front of Performance Hobbies, 15 West Main Street at 1:00 pm for a great Village Days Tradition!

You can stop by the Shop (15 West Main Street) to sign up anytime between now and the day of the contest.  Once you sign up, you will receive your free plane to practice with, so stop by ahead of time to get the edge over your competitors!
